Cookie Policy

Last Updated: May 23, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how ProgramU LLC ('ProgramU,' 'we,' 'us,' or 'our') uses cookies and similar technologies on our website at programu.app and our web application. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which describes more broadly how we handle your information.

1. What Cookies Are

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, work more efficiently, or provide information to site operators. Cookies can be 'session cookies' (deleted when you close your browser) or 'persistent cookies' (remain on your device for a set period). They can also be 'first-party' (set by ProgramU) or 'third-party' (set by other services we work with).

2. How ProgramU Uses Cookies

We take a minimal approach to cookies. We do not use cookies for advertising, retargeting, behavioral profiling, or selling your data to third parties. The cookies and similar storage we do use fall into these categories: Essential Cookies: Required for the website and web app to function — for example, keeping you signed in to your account, remembering your preferences during a session, and protecting against cross-site request forgery attacks. You cannot opt out of essential cookies without breaking core functionality. Authentication Cookies: Used by our authentication provider (Firebase Auth) to keep you signed in when you use the web app. These persist only while you remain signed in. Operational Cookies: Used by our hosting provider (Vercel) for basic site operation, performance routing, and infrastructure delivery. These are first-party in nature and do not track you across other websites. Geolocation Cookie (functional): A single non-identifying cookie stores your approximate country (derived from your IP at the network edge) so we can apply our United States–only analytics policy — it is what prevents analytics from loading for visitors outside the US. It holds only a country flag, sets no identifier, and is not used to track you. Analytics Cookies (United States visitors only): For visitors in the United States, our first-party product-analytics provider (PostHog) sets cookies/local storage to measure page views, feature usage, and session replays so we can improve the website and web app. These are NOT loaded for visitors in the EU, UK, or elsewhere — no analytics cookies are set and no session recording occurs for non-US visitors. Vercel Analytics measures aggregate, anonymized traffic without cross-site tracking cookies.

3. What We Don't Do

ProgramU does not use: • Advertising cookies — we do not show ads or sell ad space • Tracking pixels for cross-site behavioral profiling • Third-party analytics that track you across other companies' apps or websites • Social media tracking pixels (Facebook Pixel, etc.) • Cookies that share your data with marketing partners The analytics we do use are first-party (PostHog and Vercel Analytics), used only to understand and improve our own website and web app — never to follow you elsewhere. PostHog product analytics and session replay are limited to United States visitors; they are not loaded, and no analytics cookies are set, for visitors in the EU, UK, or other regions. Because non-essential analytics are geofenced to the US in this way, no cookie-consent banner is currently shown. When ProgramU expands to the EU/UK, we will update this Cookie Policy and request consent before any non-essential cookies are set for those visitors.

4. Third-Party Services and Cookies

Some services we use may set their own cookies when you interact with them: Firebase Authentication — Sets cookies to maintain your signed-in state in the web app. Vercel (Hosting + Analytics) — May set essential cookies for routing, load balancing, and infrastructure-level performance, and collects aggregate, anonymized traffic and performance metrics without cross-site tracking cookies. PostHog (Product Analytics — United States visitors only) — For visitors in the United States, sets cookies/local storage to record page views, feature usage, and session replays used to improve the website and web app. Not loaded for visitors in the EU, UK, or elsewhere. PostHog does not receive your journal entries, session content, voice data, or payment details. RevenueCat (Subscriptions) — When processing subscription purchases, may use storage mechanisms (cookies or local storage) to remember purchase state during the transaction. These services are first-party in nature relative to ProgramU's service and are not used to track you across other websites.

5. Managing Cookies

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to: • View what cookies are currently set • Delete some or all cookies • Block cookies from specific sites • Block all cookies (note: this will break sign-in and other essential features) • Receive a notification when a cookie is set For instructions specific to your browser, see the help documentation for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, or Brave. On mobile devices, cookie management is typically available in your browser app's settings menu. If you block all cookies, the ProgramU website will still load, but the web app will not function correctly — you will not be able to stay signed in, and core features will fail.

6. Mobile Apps and Cookies

The ProgramU mobile apps for iOS and Android do not use browser cookies. They use platform-native storage mechanisms (Keychain on iOS, EncryptedSharedPreferences on Android) for authentication tokens and app state. These mechanisms are described in our Privacy Policy, not this Cookie Policy. If you only use the mobile apps and never visit our website or web app, this Cookie Policy does not apply to you.

7. Do Not Track Signals

Some browsers offer a 'Do Not Track' (DNT) setting. The DNT standard has not been finalized by the industry, and ProgramU does not currently respond to DNT signals in a specific way. We do not track you for advertising purposes regardless of whether DNT is enabled — there is nothing for us to stop doing.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, particularly if we add new services that introduce new cookies. When we make material changes, we will update the 'Last Updated' date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant — for example, introducing analytics cookies for the first time — we will notify you in the web app and request fresh consent where required by law.

9. Geographic Scope

ProgramU is currently available only to residents of the United States. This Cookie Policy is drafted with U.S. privacy law in mind. When we expand to additional regions in the future, we will update this policy to address the cookie laws of those regions (including the EU ePrivacy Directive and UK PECR rules, which require explicit consent for non-essential cookies).
